In 3 capsules of this product there are 1.5 g of acetyl-L-carnitine, corresponding to a theoretical stoichiometric of 1000 mg of L-carnitine.
The use of acetyl-L-carnitine instead of carnitine follows a twofold motivation:
1) acetyl-L-carnitine can, when needed, be converted by the body into L-carnitine, and be used as such;
2) this substance has its own physiological effects, not related to the action of carnitine.
We recall that both carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine are naturally present in the human body, localized in all tissues with, however, clear prevalence in skeletal muscles. The sites of endogenous production are liver, kidney and brain; a part is then released into the circulatory stream and transported to the remaining tissues. Part of the carnitine used by the body is introduced through the diet (about 50mg/day).
However, foods that contain carnitine are only meat-based. Vegetarian subjects will have to compensate otherwise this dietary "deficiency" since carnitine (and therefore also acetyl-L-carnitine) is virtually absent in plant-based foods.
Oral intake of acetyl L-carnitine allows for a rapid increase in its blood levels.
The importance of carnitine as a food supplement derives from its main physiological function: carnitine is able to transport fatty acids inside mitochondria where they are degraded in various stages with the formation of energy.
This substance is therefore indispensable in the lipid catabolism (lipolysis). Directly or indirectly from this function "fat burning" derive the other functions of carnitine:
1) increased energy production and availability (more ATP and acetyl-CoA);
2) facilitation of the oxidation of branched chain amino acids (more energy coming from these substances);
3) increased production of pyruvate at the expense of lactate (with the possibility of delaying the deleterious effects of this metabolism on skeletal muscle activity).
Many studies have shown that both aerobic (endurance) and anaerobic (power) exertion result in a significant decrease in blood levels of carnitine. This assumption indicates how carnitine intake can prevent deficiency states induced by physical activity of various kinds.
Demonstrating the function of carnitine on lipid metabolism are some rare genetic diseases in which the subject is unable to produce endogenous carnitine. These deficiency forms explain the accumulation of fat at the muscle level (inside the muscle cells) with serious effects on the normal activity of skeletal muscle. In these cases carnitine becomes the drug of choice, able to alleviate the effects of these dysmetabolic states.
Numerous studies in sports have shown that more or less high doses (from a few hundred milligrams up to 10 g daily, both with single and chronic administration), determine in the athlete a general improvement in energy metabolism and an increase in performance. Of the utmost importance is the fact that at the doses tested carnitine has never induced harmful or undesirable side effects.
Action of Acetyl-L-carnitine: in addition to the actions of carnitine, as its precursor, acetyl-L-carnitine has its own effects. The administration of acetyl-L-carnitine improves attention, reflexes and can be useful to counteract neuralgic inflammations.
How to use:
SPORT: the product is particularly indicated for all those who practice sport assiduously. The assumption of Acetyl-Carnitine improves the energetic state of the athlete both in power and resistance effort. What may be important in the two types of effort is the pattern of intake of the product (see doses) in order to reduce the formation of lactic acid. Dosage: in power sports, take a relatively high dose of the product (6-9 capsules) before training or competition. In endurance sports, a lower intake is recommended (3-6 capsules per day), but prolonged over time (several months).
DAILY LIFE: the product is indicated in cases of asthenia, muscle weakness. Useful to integrate diets with total or partial absence of meat products (vegetarian). Indicated in children and in the third age, where the consumption of meat may be inadequate.
